Alfred Mutua Biography, Age, Education, Family, Career, Controversy and More

Alfred Ng’ang’a Mutua is a Kenyan politician and businessman. Currently, he is the Cabinet secretary for foreign and Diaspora Affairs. He is considered to be one of the best performing governors in the country after serving in Machakos County for a while.

Alfred Mutua was born on August 22nd 1970 in Masii, Machakos County.

Family

Mutua spent his early childhood in Masii where he grew with his sister Ann Mutua. Later on, his family moved to Makina in Kibera area, Nairobi. This is where he attended his primary school although he faced a lot of financial difficulties since his family was poor. Little details are known about his father who’s name he revealed in an interview as Habil Otieno Lut. Mutua’s mother denied these claims and little is known about the two.

Education

Alfred started his education journey at Guadalupe Catholic Church Nursery school. He then joined Toi Primary School in Kibera to pursue his primary education. Mutua passed well and enrolled to Dagoretti High School for his O-levels. During this time, he became active in curricular activities and got into acting and public speaking. He later on went to Jamhuri High School for A-levels where he became the president of the debate club. The politician also got into sports like rugby and football and started perfecting his acting and scriptwriting skills.

After his high school, he attended Whitworth College in the United States for a bachelors in Arts and journalism. Alfred Mutua then decided to further his education at Eastern Washington University for a Masters in communication. He did not stop there as he joined the University of Western Sydney in Australia for a PhD in communication and media. During his university education, he also took additional courses to the side including computer skills.

Career

Since his family was financially challenged, Alfred worked at odd jobs like Mjengo at a young age. Later on, he began getting different jobs and opportunities which changed life for him. In 1995, he started writing for the Daily Nation as an intern. Later in his life, he started working as a lecturer in Daystar University where he taught media and communication related things.

During this time, he also ran a company, Golden Dreams Company which he began at 21 years. Alfred also worked for several other companies while in the US as a student. In 1997, he started feature writing for Nation Group Media. He took up a lot of jobs during this time.

Political Career

During the Mwai Kibaki reign in 2004, he was selected as a government spokesperson. He held this position until 2012 where he resigned and decided to run for Machakos County gubernatorial seat. Before resigning he also worked in the office of public communications in the president’s office.

In 2013, Alfred was elected as Machakos County governor using the Wiper party ticket. He won again in 2017 and served until 2022. He was then elected cabinet secretary for foreign and diaspora affairs in 2023.

Alfred Mutua Marriage and Dating

The ex-governor is currently single although he has two previous marriages. He first married Josephine Thitu Maundu on July 1st 2000. The two were blessed with three children although their marriage ended pretty badly in a legal battle over child custody and property settlement. They then divorced in 2015 and his ex-wife went with his kids to Australia.

Later on, he married Lilian Ng’ang’a whom he started dating in 2014. Their marriage ended in 2021.
