“CBC Is Here To Stay” Magoha Warned

Education Cabinet Secretary Professor George Magoha now says that the new curriculum based on the child’s abilities. Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) is here to stay and is the right way to go as far education in Kenya is concerned. He spoke this in Kikambala in Kilifi during the award of best students in National writing competition organized by Pwani Oil Company yesterday. Magoha said CBC is God sent since the system can help reveal the pupils’ talents that will be identified. In addition, the learner can benefit from the talent itself.

He said that the new curriculum has reduced mass cheating in national examinations. This occurence has not helped children in their academic and life quest.

“If you are going to be denied using one examination, which in all cases is corruption through cheating, what have you done to the child? In CBC it is not possible to cheat and I want to salute again Bwana Nzioka, your teacher who marked grade four assessment last year. The curve is normal there was no need to moderate it, even the cheating is going to be permanently solved” Magoha affirmed.

The CS said these during the award of five students that clinch victory in  national writing. Magoha advised parents to always give a listening ear to their children and abide by their career choices without influencing their decisions.

“Can we listen to our children’s, and also allow them to think even in the issue of CBC? Ladies and gentlemen let us be very sober, we are not begging anybody to support us. I would like a situation where if you are trained in Agriculture and I leave you with an acre of land you don’t have to go to anybody. You will use that land properly and even to employ others to generate money from that activity ” The CS added.

The tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala who attended the occasion urged Governmental and other stakeholders to emulate the initiative. He also added they should support the education system and expanding the competition beyond grade seven.

Addition on CBC

“This competition is going to expand beyond class seven and standard eight students. But it is going to go to the CBC project because we want to develop curriculum for our students. This is a private sector where consumers are these students. We are glad that we have invested here and education is key.” Balala promised.

Also, in attendance was Pwani Oil Director Rajul Malde who appreciated the participants, and Education Minister George Magoha.

“In terms of education to us we have already received almost 18 schools from all over the country. I can attest to you that I am a product of curriculum-based. There is no other way of educating oneself than research-based internalized competency. ” Dr.Rajul Malde stated.
