Migori Governor Okoth Obado Biography, Age, Education, Marriage, Controversy and More

Zacharia Okoth Obado is a Kenyan politician and the current and first governor for Migori County. He is a member of the Orange Democratic Party (ODM) which is in the NASA Coalition.

Age

Okoth was born in 1957 in Migori County.

Education

After his primary education, Obado attended St. Josephs’ Rapogi Secondary School located in Uriri, Migori County. He then proceeded to Kenyatta University to pursue a degree in education. After practicing the teaching profession for a while, he went back to Kenyatta University where he did a masters in Strategic Management.

Career

He debuted his career as a teacher in his former School, St. Josephs’ Rapogi where he taught sciences. His students have in the past and in so many occasions said that he was a very ambitious man who deeply loved politics and they knew he will one day be a great politician. He then taught several other schools before he joined the cooperate world. He previously worked as the chairman for the Kenya Sugar Board after he was appointed by the then minister of agriculture S.J Kosgey.

In 2013, he got into politics and wanted to run for governor using the ODM ticket. He did not lose and many people encouraged him to take another party nomination which was surprising that he won since the area is an ODM hotspot. He became the first governor of Migori County and was reelected in 2017.

He is married to Hellen Okoth and the two have two children; Jerry and Evalyne Okoth.

Okoth Obado Controversy

One major scandal that got public attention and put him on the spotlight is when he was linked to the murder of 26-year-old Sharon Otieno who was a student at Rongo University. He was said to have been having an affair with her and she was brutally murdered with a pregnancy that was confirmed to be Okoth’s after a DNA test.

Okoth Obado was accused of killing Sharon although he denied all this saying that his personal assistant Michael Oyamo was behind it all and wanted to destroy him. Obado is also said to have had an affair with his wife’s step sister, Rhoda Odie something they both denied. It is said that he even bought her a house and gave her a job at the county office. It is said that she was pregnant but was told by the family to terminate it. She afterwards fired from her job creating conflict between Hellen and her.
