He was born on 21st September 1972 at Pumwani Hospital in Ruiru, Kiambu County. Igather is a Kikuyu by tribe.
Early Life and Family
Polycarp was born in a family of civil servants. His father Mr Kamau was an accountant while his mother served as a primary school teacher. He is not the late Chris Kirubi’s son unlike popular public opinion.
Igathe attended the University of Nairobi as from 1990 where he got a degree in Bachelor of Arts in economics and sociology. During his stay at the university, he was a chairman of the AIESEC in Kenya. He graduated from UoN in 1995. Additionally, he was a part of Strathmore University Advanced Management Program (AMP) with a business school in Spain called IESE.
His first job was in Australia where he started working immediately after graduation. Less than two years later he came to Kenya and started working for Coca-Cola until 2000. Later on, he joined Africa Online as a marketing manager and then moved to Kenya Breweries Limited where he worked as a sales operation manager. He switched to the marketing manager position after a while.
Polycarp Igathe then started working for Haco Tiger Brands where he was the regional managing director for East Africa. He worked for 10 years at Haco before switching to VIVO Energy. The businessman has also had a lot of positions in Equity Bank as from 2018 where he has served on and off.
He vied for Nairobi deputy gubernatorial seat in 2017 and won using a Jubilee party ticket. The politician worked alongside Mike Sonko for a while and resigned in less than a year. He cited lack of trust with his boss, Mike Sonko as his main reason. In April 2022, he declared his interest as Nairobi governor and unfortunately lost to Johnson Sakaja.
Marriage and Kids
Igathe is married to Catherine Igathe. He adores her and often refers to her as his life and also attributes her success to her. They have three kids with the oldest being fifteen years.
