Replacing A Laptop Screen

Having a laptop with a completely broken screen is a pretty common phenomenon. To save on expense of the repair, you can do it yourself. This requires following some series of steps without taking it to the repair shops. You may need to have screws and some tools to open the laptop and remember to wear gloves.

Make sure that the laptop is turned off and unplug the charger along with the battery. If you leave them intact, you may end up short circuiting your laptop. The first step is to remove the screen. Remove the rubber screw covers on the screen. Most laptops will have small screw covers made of rubber around the screen to protect the screws. Use the tip of a screwdriver or a safety pin to pry off the rubber covers so you can see the bezel screws.

Then you use a screwdriver to remove the screws. Use a screw of the correct size to avoid cracking the laptop or the screws. After you have removed the screws, place them somewhere where they can not get lost. Take note of the screw that comes from each port to avoid mixing them. Place your fingers at the bottom center of the laptop screen. Then, gently slide your fingers between the bezel and the screen. Pull the bezel with your fingers. It should snap loose. If it does not, try pulling it gently in different directions until it comes loose. Work your fingers around the bezel until it detaches from the screen. This process should be done with great care to avoid breaking some components on the screen.

The next step is to disconnect all the cables connected to the screen. Different laptops have different cables take note of where the cables are connected including the power cable and the video cable. After you have removed all the cables and any screw if any, then you will have to gently remove the screen.

Replacing The New Laptop Screen

After you have removed the screen, place it on flat surface to avoid damage and sometimes the screen may be charged. Now you take the new screen, remove any covers and remember to wear new gloves. Place the new screen where you had removed the old screen from the laptop, connect the cables to the new screen properly inserting them at the assigned port.

If the screen completely fixes itself on the laptop then you will have to take the screws and return them in their ports using the screwdriver. After placing the screws then you finally fix the rubbers. The most important thing is have a new screen with you and work carefully.
