Pupils and Staff at Yanyonge Primary School in Mwingi have been left in shock after the headteacher committed suicide. Mr. Kioko Mutie took his own life by hanging himself in his own office. The school is located in Mwingi Central, Kitui County and the incident has left more questions. It could not be established why the headteacher made the decision to kill himself.
The late Mr. Kioko did not leave any suicide note to help people know why he did what he did. Confirming the incident, area assistant chief described the incident as mysterious. He described the teacher as lively and one who never showed any signs of depression.
Teachers and pupils also described him as a person who had passion for teaching and delivering education. He always arrived to school early to start teaching.
The body of the teacher was takento Mwingi hospital mortuary. The incident has happened amid growing cases of depression and suicide in Kenya. Teachers are also under a lot of pressure. Further investigations into the incident will reveal what happened to the teacher.
