A family in Subukia was demanding justice over their kin who was assaulted after being arrested over a land dispute. Stephen Kabuyu aged 57 was allegedly beaten up by a female police officer as he was locked up one weekend. He narrated what happened to the media who visited his Kahiga village home. Kabuyu’s son, Gidraft Mwangi, explained that his father pleaded for mercy but she didn’t listen. It is alleged that his genitals were hurt in the process.
Mwangi says that they went to visit his father in the cell and he told them of what had happened. The family requested to take him to hospital but the officers refused. The officer demanded Stephen to surrender the title deed which had caused the conflict in the family since 2013.
The land which was to be divided amongst three siblings turned into chaos. The police visited the home claiming Kabuyu had removed the beacon bestowed at the fence. Kabuyu is still being detained at Kirengero police station where he has not been given a fair hearing.
They harassed him and in the process hurt his genitals then said they would solve the issue if Ksh 64,000 was handed. 44,000 was allegedly to be given to the police and 20,000 to the surveyors who were going to divide the land. The family is now demanding justice calling the General of police to intervene. The commander said that investigations are still being carried out on the matter.
