These Are The Reasons To Why 8-4-4 System Should Not Be Evaded

Currently in Kenya there is a move to get away with the 8-4-4 system where ne had to learn for eight years in primary school, four years in secondary school and another four years in any institution of higher learning. The is a move to come up with the competence based curriculum where one will have to take two years in primary pre primary school, six years in primary, six years in secondary school and three years in higher institutions.

Due to the current move there have been a lot of challenges facing the implementation of CBC curriculum. Parents at times have no money to purchase some things needed at school towards implementation of the system.  Some reasons to 8-4-4 system should not be done away with include.

For younger kids in particular, stability matters to a degree. Kids get to know how to navigate a particular school environment, both in terms of their studies and in terms of the social scene and norms. The less that is disrupted, the more mental energy they have to focus on their studies. When students have to move to a new school, find new friends, navigate a new set of rules. That can lead to some losses in opportunity to learn for a stretch until the student becomes comfortable navigating the new environment. When the student leaves primary school.

Having a range of ages at a school, provided the school leadership uses those well. Kids grow a lot faster by watching older kids than by listening to adults talk. Schools that incorporate opportunities for older students. They mentor younger kids can see some significant positive effects, both for the younger and the older kids.

This reason makes the 8-4-4 system to be better than the competence based curriculum which is under implementation. The stakeholders who are in charge may re consider their decision of doing away with the 8-4-4
