Top Ten Highest Scoring Defenders in History

Sergio Ramos is the active present player who has joined in with most legend defenders in scoring a 100 plus goals. He recently hit the 100th mark for Real Madrid during Real Madrid clash against Inter Milan, Real winning 3-2 at Santiago Bernabeu.


However, he is not the one with the most goals. Here is the list:

1. Ronald Koeman (253 goals)
The Dutchman who played mostly for Barcelona and his National Team scored a total of 253 goals in his 17- year career and he still holds the record for the defender with the highest goals.


He also played for the following teams: Ajax, PSG, Feyernoord and Groningen, scoring double- figure goals in all teams. He is quite a legend. He is currently the manager of FC Barcelona.

2. Daniel Passarella (175 goals)
Passarella the World Cup winner was regarded as the best South American defender with an astonishing goal scoring form. He was a defender who often joined the attack, and helped generate and finish offensive plays.


It is believed that he could have merited the best player in Argentina if the likes of Diego Maradona and Lionel Messi were not in the conversation.

3. Fernando Hierro (163 goals)


The Bolton Wanders and Real Madrdid’s former star retired in 2005 after scoring a total of 163 goals for his clubs and the National Team of Spain.
Hierro secured his place of being among the best in Spain and Real Madrid and EPL at large by his goal scoring ability.

4. Laurent Blanc (153 goals)
He trully achieved a lot during his time. In 1998 he won the FIFA World Cup and played for top European teams including Mancherster United, Barcelona and Inter Milan. He kicked off his professional career at Montpelier and scored over 70 goals for the French club across all their competitions, and still holds the goal scoring record at the club.

5. Graham Alexander (130 goals)
Graham from Scotland played in the Right back position and he scored a total of 130 goals during his career. He played for Burnley, Scunthorpe, Luton and Preston North End.

6. Sergio Ramos (127 goals)


Sergio Ramos is currently the most prolific goals scoring defender in the world with at least a goal in every match for either his national team or club. He recently bagged his 100th goal for Real.

7. Steve Bruce (113 goals)
He is currently the Manager of Newcastle United. He played as a centre back for Mancherster United, Gillingham, Norwich, Birmingham and Sheffield United scoring a total of 113 goals in his entire career.

8. Paul Breitner (113 goals)


The left back who played for Bayern Munich and West Germany in the 70’s scored a total of 113 goals, he was also named in the FIFA World Cup All-Time Team and was named by Pelé one of the top 125 greatest living footballers at a FIFA Awards ceremony in 2004.

9. Roberto Carlos (113 goals)


He is known for his best tackles during his time and he is the scorer of one the greatest free-kick of all time. Even with the tackles and defending job, the full back managed to net 113 goals during his career.

10. Franz Beckenbauer – (109 goals)
The West Germany captain revolutionised the sweeper role, and the fact that he was the furthest player from the opposition’s goal and still managing to score a total of 109 goals speaks highly of his goalscoring prowess.
