Uganda Police Arresting People Buying Five Or More Chapatis

A post made by BBC Swahili world news pm Uganda has aroused not only a social media stir but also funny reactions from the East African community. The post which stated that Ugandan police are arresting people who are buying more than five “chapatis” has not only surprised Ugandans but also Kenyan people. Many social media flooded the comments to express their thoughts.

This is taking place at Moroto District north of Uganda due to some insecurity in the area. The people buying more than five “chapatis” are suspected to be feeding cattle thieves in the area. Michael Longole, the spokesman police at Karamoja said that they had received information on the same from some informers.

He also said that the main reason they are doing that is to cut off their source of food hence forcing them out of hiding. An activist in the area, Mark Koryang, commented saying that this plan was not going to work. This is because those thieves could live without eating “chapati”.

Around fifty eight guns have been found in that location in the recent days since the operation started. As reported by another area member, he urged the police to work with the community members instead so as to end the insecurity.
