Will Schools Close Down? Alarm After Students Test Positive for COVID-19

Days after resumption of classes in Kenyan schools, there is growing alarm and concern after students have started testing positive for corona virus. The ministry of education had reopened classes for grade 4, grade 8 and form four students.

The Nandi County Health executive Ruth Koech has confirmed a case in the area. The victim is a student at Kabote SDA Secondary School. The victim has already been placed in an isolation center.

This was revealed after a team of health experts were sent to do tests in various schools in the area.

“The health teams are closely monitoring schools to ensure the situation is under control,” she stated.

In another incident, another form four student from St. Peters Boys in Kakamega County tested positive the virus. He has also been placed in an isolation center. Dr Collins Matemba, who is the County Health Executive in the area has given assurance that the situation is being monitored.

Students with underlying medical conditions such as diabetes and asthma are at higher risk if the virus breaks out in the schools.

The ministry of health had revealed that they are monitoring the cases of covid-19 in various schools. The growing Corona virus cases places fears that schools may be closed down again.
