Gumbo: “We Must Address Voter Apathy Among The Young People In Siaya”

Former Rarieda Member of Parliament Dr.Nicholas Odero Gumbo has warned leaders to put aside their thirst for leadership and engage in mass voter registration in Siaya County. This will help ODM leader and Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to clinch to Presidency.

Speaking in Rarieda Sub-County during the meeting that brought together ODM Chief Raila Odinga and Party Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna, Engineer Gumbo urged citizens to tread carefully as the country gears towards general elections. The elections are to taking place less 12 months from now.

The former legislature who is eying Siaya Gubernatorial race said they should do more to ensure no voters left out.

“In 2017 your Excellency, the number of votes not cast in Siaya County were 79,000.  We must address the issue of voter apathy among the youths in Siaya. There is something called trade analysis in mathematics . Your excellency if you do that trade then it means in 2022 unless we increase voter apathy in Siaya County, over 111,000 in Siaya County will not vote ” Gumbo warned

Edwin Sifuna Remarks

Similarly, ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna added that ODM will work closely with the people driven by Orange house. They will ensure citizens possess National Identification cards and voter’s cards ahead of general polls. Sifuna said the recruitment drive targets those who have attained majority age and has not availed for the exercise.

“We are going to start a very serious recruitment drive ya IEBC ya voters driven by IEBC na chungwa house. That one I can guarantee you engineer Gumbo. The statistics show that if we increase the registration in Nyanza and Western by only 5% then we raise turnout by 5%. Hatuitaji kuisumbuliwa na watu wa vyama ndogo ndogo. We will have what it takes for Raila Odinga kuingia State House,” Sifuna added.
