Meet The Dazzling Face Of Resilience

YouTube has grown into a platform where people share the darkest of stories. It is a great gift to mankind as it reveals all of the painful experiences people have gone through. It is an even greater gift as it has taught many that they can get up after the hardest fall.

Meet Sharon Obara

The story of the young beautiful Mary Sharon Obara is unparalleled. Sharon is a youtuber and a skin influencer. She shared her story on Margie Muga’s channel – who recently introduced Motherhood Stories- divulging into all that transpired until she lost her baby during the pandemic. Her narration will surely give you chills, make you angry and empathetic at the same time.

Sharon blamed everyone including herself and God for what she went through. She held the police who barred her from going to the hospital, accountable for the loss of her baby.

Encounter With The Police

On her due date, just like any other soon to be mom, she had had everything planned out. Heading to St. Mary’s hospital in Lang’ata for her delivery, her journey was cut short by police officers who insisted that she could not be allowed to pass through because it was already past curfew. Her pleading fell on dead and deaf ears.

At The Hospital

Holding on to the hope of meeting her baby, she and her partner made a U turn to a nearby hospital. Little did they know, a series of tragic ordeals would knock on her door. Upon arrival, she was handed over to a student who pretended to be a doctor. The hospital had no idea of her background and so, they did not listen to her.

She was induced severally but she could not give birth naturally as it had already been established at St. Mary ‘s. After hours of excruciating pain, she took a cab to Mbagathi Hospital only to be told that it is packed to capacity.

It Is Darkest Before Dawn

In her hospital robe, bleeding, Sharon was completely shattered. At 10 cm dilated, she walked to the wards, which is not advisable because it would lead to harm on the baby’s head.

“Walk quickly, quickly… You are dripping blood everywhere,” a watchman instructed her.

Sharon had to be taken to St. Mary’s hospital. This was their last resort. However, the medical institution could only admit her on cash basis and her insurance had expired.

A Strong Woman

There is hope for humanity. The surgeon at the hospital, stopped what he was doing and attended to Sharon. He said that all the payments would be dealt with later after Sharon’s treatment. Sadly, her baby did not survive but she lived to tell her story. Anger and denial became part and parcel of her life. She also experienced stigma and she lost friends.

  • Nonetheless, Sharon relentlessly pushed herself every single day. That is how she managed to share her heart wrenching story, full of grace.
