High-profile players who Tested Positive for Coronavirus

Many footballers and managers have tested positive for Covid-19 after the pandemic hit the World in the beginning of 2020. Arsenal’s manager, Arteta, was among the few managers who tested positive of the virus.

The pandemic affected the economy of the world at large and it also affected the world of football at large, the trainings, schedules and travels.

The likes of Kai Havertz of Chelsea and Alex Telles of Mancherster still being out of the premier league at the moment, the pandemic is still eating into the games and cautions are still being made even during this season’s games.

However in this article, the focus will be on the high- profiled players who tested positive of the virus and how it affected their respective teams.

 

Cristiano Ronaldo

Ronaldo tested positive for Covid-19 during the international games and was forced to self-isolate back in Portugal. He missed Juventus’ fixture against Barcelona which led to the Barcelona’s win after he tested positive the second time during his isolation period. Ronaldo has since recovered and back on form. He scored two goals after his return into Juventus during the clash against Spezia.

 

Zlatan Ibrahimovic

The self-proclaimed god of football tested positive for Coronavirus a day after he led AC Milan win their Serie A fixture against Bologna. He went ahead and posted on his twitter: “I tested negative to Covid yesterday and positive today. No symptoms what so ever. Covid had the courage to challenge me. Bad idea” He however recovered and back into the team.

 

Neymar

PSG is among the few teams that was hit hard by the pandemic. This is after six of its key first 11 players tested positive for coronavirus during the preseason festivities in Ibiza, Spain. Neymar alongside Kylian Mbappe, Marquinhos, Angel Di Maria, Ander Herera and Keylor Navas tested positive for the virus. The fact that six first-team players reported positive made PSG’s loss in their first game of the season against RC Lens.

None of the key players were featured on the match and this led to the 1-0 loss.

They are all now fully recovered and all back into the field after they all self isolated and recovered quickly.

 

Paul Pogba

Just a night before Mancherster United’s opening game of the new Premier League Campaign, Pogba was found positive of Coronavirus during the last round of testing. Manchester United has also been one of the Club’s critisized for not controlling their players’ post- season movements. Pogba recovered and is back into the squad. He, however, took quite some time to be back on form because of lack of proper training.

 

Paulo Dybala

The Argentinian and Juventus’ foward tested positive for Coronavirus not once but four times. After announcing that he and his girlfriend were positive for Covid-19 back in March, Dybala was then tested severally and came out positive for virus four times by the end of April. He however fully recovered and has since adhered to rules and guidelines to avoid a fifth positive test.

 

Callum Hudson-Odoi

Chelsea’s youngster tested positive of the virus back in March. He was among the first few players to contract the virus. This led to Chelsea temporarily closing their training facilities. Everyone who came into contact with the Englishman was asked to quickly self-isolate. This move helped a lot to reduce the wide spread of the virus across the London’s blues.
